- They take a long (very long!) hard look at Imitation of Life (1959), directed by Douglas Sirk and starring Lana Turner, Juanita Moore, Susan Kohner, and Sandra Dee. This melodramatic movie and the original 1934 version are so beloved that they've both been included in the National Film Registry and they honestly can't figure out why. It even secured two Best Supporting Oscar nominations. How?
